Why Reels templates disagree

Search for a Reels safe zone and you'll find a 1080 × 1440 centre area on one site and 1010 × 1280, with 220 px at the top and 420 px at the bottom, on another. Neither comes from Instagram. Instagram doesn't publish a safe zone for ordinary Reels at all.

The only official figure is in Meta's ads guide: leave 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free. On a 1080 × 1920 frame that is 269, 672 and 65 px. This tool uses those numbers. They're stricter at the bottom than most templates, because the caption grows when someone taps “more”, and the buttons sit low on the right.

Where to put captions on a Reel

Burned-in captions read best just above the bottom margin, so their last line ends around 1248 px down. Keep lines short enough to stay inside the side margins: about 30 characters at a size people can read on a phone.

Your cover frame matters too. On your profile and in the feed, a Reel can appear cut down to a shorter shape, so use the 4:5 crop preview (under “More options”) to check the cover still reads.

On a 1080 × 1920 Reel, keep text out of the top 269 px, the bottom 672 px and 65 px at each side. That leaves a 950 × 979 px safe area in the middle.
