YouTube video size and resolution

The standard YouTube video size is 1920 × 1080 pixels (1080p), a 16:9 aspect ratio. YouTube lists 16:9 sizes from 426 × 240 up to 7680 × 4320 (8K); upload the biggest you have.

Other shapes

YouTube's player resizes itself to your video's shape, so you don't need to add black bars. Don't: YouTube says bars get in the way of the player adapting. A vertical video on a computer shows with padding at the sides.

One catch: a square or vertical video of 3 minutes or less posts as a Short, not a regular video. Make it wider, or longer, if you want it on the watch page.

Length and file size

Every account can upload videos up to 15 minutes. Verify your account with a code by text or call, and you can upload up to 12 hours. The largest file YouTube takes is 256 GB.
