Horizontal video on TikTok

TikTok plays a 16:9 video as a narrow strip with black above and below. People can turn their phone for some long videos, but most scroll past first. If the video started life wide, reframe it to 9:16 and keep the subject in the middle.

Don't add your own black bars or blurred backgrounds to reach 9:16. TikTok can't tell them from the picture, and your captions end up further from the action.

Photo posts

A TikTok photo post can hold up to 35 photos, which play as swipeable slides. Use 1080 × 1920 for photos that fill the screen; phone photos at 3:4 show with space above and below.
