Should you let Instagram split it?
A split story works, but every clip is a new place for someone to tap away. If the video is one thought, trim it to 60 seconds. If it's several, cut it yourself at natural breaks so each clip starts cleanly instead of mid-sentence.
On iPhone, Instagram shows a trimmer under longer videos so you can choose the parts to keep.
Longer than a story should be?
Stories disappear after 24 hours. If the video is worth keeping, post it as a Reel (up to 20 minutes) and share the Reel to your story. Your followers see it in stories, and it stays on your profile.
