Is InShot free?

Yes. InShot is free to download and edit with, and InShot describes itself as free with paid extras. Some filters, effects and transitions are locked until you upgrade.

InShot Pro unlocks those. There's also a separate $3.99 purchase that only removes ads.

Which InShot Pro option to pick

The yearly price is the same as four months of the monthly one, so monthly only makes sense for a one-off project. Lifetime at $49.99 pays for itself against the yearly plan in two and a half years.

InShot is cheap because it's a manual phone editor. You trim, caption and arrange everything by hand on a small screen. For a quick clip that's fine; for a weekly talking-to-camera video, the time adds up more than the price.

InShot next to Krafto

The same questions for both, including the ones Krafto doesn't win: there's no free plan, it only runs in a browser, and it starts above InShot's cheapest plan.

Which should you pay for?

Pay for InShot if you edit on your phone and want the cheapest upgrade around: $19.99 a year or $49.99 once. Everything is done by hand on a small screen, and there's no desktop or web version.

Pay for Krafto if you film yourself talking and the editing is what you want gone: it makes the first cut from your clips, with the pauses and retakes out and the captions on. No free plan or trial, no phone app, and no template library: you film, Krafto cuts, and you check the result in a browser.

Where Krafto fits

Krafto works differently from every editor on this page: you upload your clips and say what you want, and it cuts the retakes and pauses, adds captions and hands you a first cut. You change things by asking, and the timeline is still there if you want it. It costs $25 a month. There's no free plan, so it only makes sense if editing is the part you want off your plate.
