Is Clipchamp free?

Yes, and it's one of the more generous free plans. Clipchamp exports at 1080p with no watermark for free, and the free plan includes automatic subtitles, silence removal and auto compose, which arranges your media into a first draft.

Paying adds 4K exports, premium stock and effects, and a brand kit. Clipchamp no longer sells its own paid plan: the premium features come with a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription.

Do you need Clipchamp Premium?

For most people, no. The free plan already exports at 1080p without a watermark and includes subtitles and silence removal, which is what social video needs. Premium is for 4K, premium stock footage and a brand kit.

If you already pay for Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, you have Premium. Sign in to Clipchamp with the same Microsoft account.

Clipchamp next to Krafto

The same questions for both, including the ones Krafto doesn't win: there's no free plan, it only runs in a browser, and it starts above Clipchamp's cheapest plan.

Which should you pay for?

Pay for Clipchamp if you want a free, watermark-free editor in your browser, especially if you already pay for Microsoft 365. You still build the video yourself on a timeline, and silence removal only catches pauses longer than three seconds.

Pay for Krafto if you film yourself talking and the editing is what you want gone: it makes the first cut from your clips, with the pauses and retakes out and the captions on. No free plan or trial, no phone app, and no template library: you film, Krafto cuts, and you check the result in a browser.

Where Krafto fits

Krafto works differently from every editor on this page: you upload your clips and say what you want, and it cuts the retakes and pauses, adds captions and hands you a first cut. You change things by asking, and the timeline is still there if you want it. It costs $25 a month. There's no free plan, so it only makes sense if editing is the part you want off your plate.
