OpusClip alternatives

OpusClip is built for one job: cutting a long video into short clips. If you film short videos in the first place, or want more say in the edit, here's what else to look at.

Why people look for a OpusClip alternative

OpusClip works when you already have a long recording. People look for an alternative when their videos don't start that way: you filmed three takes of a 60-second video, and you need the good parts stitched together, not clips picked out of an hour.

Others leave over control or cost. You get the clips OpusClip chooses, the free ones are watermarked and deleted after three days, and b-roll and every output shape need the $29 plan.

OpusClip alternatives at a glance

OpusClip is the first row, as the editor you're comparing against. Krafto is the last, because it's ours. The columns are the questions a buyer asks, including the ones Krafto doesn't win.

Descript: podcasts and interviews, edited as text

Descript is a video and audio editor where you edit the transcript to edit the video, with an AI assistant called Underlord that takes plain-language instructions. Pick it if you make podcasts or interviews and like the idea of deleting words on a page to cut the video.

Free plan: yes: 720p with a watermark. Paid from $16 a month, billed yearly, on Web, Windows and Mac. You still work inside an editor and read through a transcript, and the AI help is rationed by monthly credits.

CapCut: hands-on editing for TikTok and Reels

CapCut is a timeline editor for social videos, known for its templates, effects and one-tap AI tools. Pick it if you enjoy editing and want the biggest library of trending templates and effects.

Free plan: yes, with paid tools locked. Paid from $9.99 a month, on iPhone, Android, Mac, desktop and web. It's still a timeline: you choose every cut yourself, and the captions most creators want are listed under the $19.99 plan.

Clipchamp: a free, simple editor in the browser

Clipchamp is Microsoft's simple video editor that runs in a browser, with templates, stock media and a few free AI helpers. Pick it if you want a free, watermark-free editor in your browser, especially if you already pay for Microsoft 365.

Free plan: yes: 1080p, no watermark. Paid from $9.99 a month, with Microsoft 365, on Web and Windows. You still build the video yourself on a timeline, and silence removal only catches pauses longer than three seconds.

Filmora: an easy desktop timeline at a low yearly price

Filmora is Wondershare's desktop and phone video editor: an approachable timeline with a long list of AI tools that run on credits. Pick it if you want an easy desktop timeline with plenty of effects, at a low yearly price or a one-time licence.

Free plan: yes: exports are watermarked. Paid from $59.99 a year, or $79.99 once, on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Free exports are watermarked, the AI tools cost credits on top of the plan, and you're still editing on a timeline yourself.

Krafto: describe the edit instead of making it

Krafto works differently from every editor on this page: you upload your clips and say what you want, and it cuts the retakes and pauses, adds captions and hands you a first cut. You change things by asking, and the timeline is still there if you want it. It costs $25 a month. There's no free plan, so it only makes sense if editing is the part you want off your plate.

Where it loses: no free plan or trial, no phone app, and no template library: you film, Krafto cuts, and you check the result in a browser.

Which OpusClip alternative should you choose?

Choose Descript if you make podcasts or interviews and like the idea of deleting words on a page to cut the video.

Choose CapCut if you enjoy editing and want the biggest library of trending templates and effects.

Choose Clipchamp if you want a free, watermark-free editor in your browser, especially if you already pay for Microsoft 365.

Choose Filmora if you want an easy desktop timeline with plenty of effects, at a low yearly price or a one-time licence.

Choose Krafto if you film yourself talking, you'd rather describe the edit than make it, and $25 a month with no free plan is acceptable for not editing. No free plan or trial, no phone app, and no template library: you film, Krafto cuts, and you check the result in a browser.

Stay with OpusClip if you have long recordings, such as podcasts or streams, and want many short clips out of them quickly.

When OpusClip is still the right choice

If the job is finding the good moments in an hour of footage, OpusClip is the better tool, and nothing else on this page does that as its main purpose. Podcasters and streamers should keep it.

Questions

Asked often

For editing spoken recordings as text, Descript. For hands-on social editing, CapCut. For a free timeline, Clipchamp. If you film separate takes and want them turned into one finished video, Krafto.

You can ask it to cut a long recording down, and it will. OpusClip is built specifically for producing many clips from one long video at once, so for that job it's the better fit.

Yes: Descript, CapCut, Clipchamp and Filmora have free plans. The table above shows what each one leaves out. Krafto has no free plan.

Krafto: you upload your clips and say what you want, and it makes the first cut. The others give you tools that speed up parts of the job, like captions or cutting pauses, but you still do the edit yourself.
